Individual Therapy

Individual therapy may be short-term, focusing on an immediate concern, or long-term self-exploration toward growth and insight. I work collaboratively with clients to help identify personal goals, navigate challenging life transitions, change maladaptive coping techniques, increase self esteem and personal empowerment, address and improve relationships with significant others and one's family of origin, and heal from painful experiences. I specialize in working with identity issues, marginalization/oppression, anxiety, depression, and grief.

Identity Issues

Developing a strong sense of personal identity is an important life task and crucial to fostering a healthy sense of self as well as creating satisfying relationships with others. Struggles with identity can include concerns regarding race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion/spirituality, and class. Concerns may also center around family and work roles.

It is a normal part of the human experience to have periods of difficulty or confusion with these different aspects of self.  Broader social and cultural norms and dictates can further complicate these challenges, especially when one is also navigating dynamics of marginalization or oppression. Long term or ongoing difficulty with aspects of self and identity can begin to impact feelings of self worth and wellbeing, and can lead to symptoms of anxiety or depression, relationship challenges, and health problems.
